Royal Copenhagen

Today, I walked around Copenhagen on a self-guided tour for one of my classes. About half-way through Hilary joined me and we continued on...making a few stops along the way. One of which was the Royal Copenhagen store and museum, they are the creators of the blue painted (usually some sort of floral design) dinnerware. Each piece is hand-made/painted/glazed/fired/created in general. While there, we stumbled upon a couple actual painters who let us have a hand at it. So, here I am painting away...

She had a broken plate that she let us work on.

These white plates are not dishwasher safe as paint is applied after it has been initially glazed but their traditional blue ones are. The painter told us that by the time a piece is done it has had 30-some hands working on it, and it shows in the price. These quality goods do not come cheap, one plate runs around $1600!
