While in Copenhagen

While Jordan was in Copenhagen, we saw a few things I'd been meaning to check off the list while here...first, the Carlsberg Brewery! It was my first tour and this was quite the brewery, basically it was it's own city that took us about half an hour to walk around to get to the visitors' center. J.C. Jacobsen founded the Carlsberg Brewery in 1847, naming it after his son Carl and the hill upon which the brewery stood. His son, Carl, also opened up his own brewery calling it New Carlsberg and they merged in 1906. Little plug for Danish scientists--Emit Christian Hansen developed a method for cultivating brewer's yeast at Carlsberg before the method was distributed to brewers worldwide.

Ny = New

Here's a wall of all the beers produced by Carlsberg; unfortunately we didn't really recognize many of them beyond what we've seen (and drank) here.

The 6-pointed star represents mind and matter and was placed above vats of brewing beer, said to keep the devil and witches away from making it a bad batch.

Marco...this little trickster. Along the tour we walked into the stables and none of the horses were moving. We literally thought they were fake until one finally moved. After that we saw more moving, but Marco here never budged an inch.

Just yesterday, I found out these are Belgium horses. You can often see (especially in the summertime) these horses pulling the Carlsberg cart below around offering rides to people.

Here's Chris as J.C. Jacobsen himself!

Unfortunately this one turned out a bit blurry, but this is right outside the bar area of the brewery.

Tuborg...mmm. This was once it's own brewery, but was bought by Carlsberg. Honestly, I'd choose Tuborg over Carlsberg beer anyday (the classics anyway).

A view of some of their many choices for our 2 free beers. The Christmas and Elephant beers are popular among the Americans...when they're available.

Fast forward to the next day, when Jordan and I visited this huge graffiti wall just outside of downtown right behind this energy plant. I'd heard about it through a project and had been wanting to go check it out myself. It's a fenced-in area about as big as a football field that has been left open for graffiti artists to tag along both the in and outside of the fences.

First, you come to The Wall of Evolution done by www.shot-art.dk. Starting with space...

...Moving to Sea Life...

...and the Dinosaur Age...

...Ending with the Ice Age. This wall was roughly the length of a football field and all done by one art team.

The movie wall with Road to Perdition and Signs on it.

A few days before he left, my class had a field study to Christiania, where we got a guided tour of the area from a lady who's lived there for 30 years. Here's a picture of the rules their residents follow. She told us pretty much the same thing I'd mentioned in one of the first posts I put up on here, except that now is an unsteady time for them. Police are present in this area more and more and the guide wasn't sure if Christiania will still be around 5 years from now.

Then, Hilary, Chris, Garrett, Jordan and I went out to the Viking Bar on Jordan's last night here, where two Danish guys recognized Garrett and Chris and joined us and hit on both me and Jordan! Haha, according to Joe, I have a cute boyfriend :)

One last thing...this is backtracking a bit but I thought this was funny...the first thing Jordan did after getting back to Albertslund was unpack his suitcase full of stuff for me! Thanks to the fam, Alex, Kelly, Jordan, and little Jordyn's concern that the Easter Bunny might not have been able to find me I am now well stocked!
