Tonight, I was invited to dinner by two of my favorite Polish people, my neighbors Ana and Jacob. There were 5 people from Poland, one from China, Hilary, and myself...we had rice with veggies and spices, salmon with some sort of sauce on it, baked chicken that was to die for (it had a bunch of spices, had been marinading in something, and had parmesan cheese baked on top of it along with salad. Delicious!
Dinner started right around 6pm and just ended around 9pm. After we ate we sat around and talked about politics, currency, movies, etc. over a cup of tea and I've decided two things in the last hour we were chatting. #1: I'm getting tea tomorrow and #2: we are getting a water boiler for our apartment; they're so convenient! It's really simple actually and the same function can easily be done by putting a pot of water on the stove or a mug in the microwave, but like I said...convenient.
I showed one of the Polish guys a dollar bill from the states and it was the first time he'd ever seen American money. He'd read that if you get a bill damp and rub at it the ink will come off...so we tried it. No go...it smudges it, but doesn't rub it off totally. I also found out that Slovakia has plastic money. Hilary has a bill that's worth about 30 cents she showed us tonight, and it's like a really flimsy laminated bill. Tonight was the first time I looked at the two American dollars I never converted and it made me miss it's familiarness. I feel like Danish money is monopoly money and still feel funny spending 50 krone on almost nothing lol. Just wait until I have to convert currency to Hungarian and Czech! I'll keep you updated on that!
Exciting news...in one week exactly, I'll be out on the town in Budapest, Hungary! We just had our orientation the other night and found out we'll be flying out next Sunday! We are a lucky group that gets to fly (quite a few of the groups have to ride a bus all night). Then, two weeks from now I'll be taking a bus to Prague for a few days instead of flying back to Copenhagen with the group. I just booked my hostel yesterday. It sounds pretty grand with an indoor swimming pool, lounge, Italian restaurant, bar, washing machines, game room and from the reviews sounds like a good place to meet other travelers...all for $16 a night, I'll take it!
I'll try to keep this updated as much as I can this week cause then there's going to be about a week and a half break while I'm out traveling.
